Qiviut care

It's important to wash your completed qiviut project so the fibers can blossom developing the signature soft qiviut halo.

Washing your completed qiviut project is recommended. Washing releases the delicate fiber tips for an even softer fabric and enhanced halo. The basic washing instructions from the mill are as follows:

Soak your finished qiviut project in 59 - 77 f (15 - 25 c) water for 15 to 25 minutes, longer soaks = fluffier halo. Use non-alkaline detergent for soak and hand wash (baby shampoo is OK). Rinse, dry flat in the shade.

Blending in ultra-fine merino and silk adds strength, body, memory, drape and reduces shedding and doesn't diminish the lightweight softness of the qiviut whatsoever.

I am able to offer my qiviut at "relatively" low prices because I buy in large quantities and possess a global sourcing network second to none. This qiviut fiber is collected from a heard in northern Siberia, the qiviut  is then spun into knitting yarn in Mongolia and sent directly to me.

The fine undercoat of the muskox is called qiviut (kiv-ee-ute).
50 gram wound balls, about 284 yards (260 m)
The fiber length is about 28 - 30 mm and average around 12 - 15 microns.
Qiviut is naturally a soft taupe-ish brown color and is one of most luxurious fibers in the world.
Qiviut is eight times warmer than wool.
Qiviut is hypoallergenic, softer than cashmere, non-irritating to the skin, and is very durable.
Qiviut garments are worn for years and can be hand washed with mild non-alkaline detergents.
Qiviut is odorless and stays warm even when wet. Qiviut is an extremely warm lightweight fiber that traps heat in the winter, but is also breathable; truly a stunning four season fiber.
